The clock at Cafe Piccolo
After a decade of confusing high street shoppers, an upside-down town clock has finally been righted.
The clock, presented to Egham in 1991 by the Egham Garden & Allotments Association to celebrate its 50th anniversary, was incorrectly replaced upside down after a refurbishment before current building occupiers, Cafe Piccolo, moved in in 1999.
Now, management at Cafe Piccolo, who are giving the current facia a new coat of paint, took the opportunity to get the clock, which had been the subject of a constant stream of comments from passers by and the cafe's customers, put the right way up over the Easter weekend.
Now cafe manager, Bado Urosevik, hopes that time will be on their side and the clocks return to a normal position, complete with a fresh lick of white paint, will keep everybody happy.
He said: "We got the work done on Good Friday. The council had sent us a letter some months back saying the clock was our responsibility and that we had to fix it.
"We are really happy it's the right way up now and hopefully the people in Egham who were commenting on it should be happy."
