FORMER St David's pupils have expressed their dismay at the closure of the school, with one saying problems had been brewing for years.

Bex McDermott, of Clifford Road, Ashford, left the school after 10 years in 2007. She said: "There were rumours a few years back when I was in the sixth form. I think money could have been spent more wisely.

"It's very sad. It's a beautiful, historic building and I made a lot of friends there."

Emily Burrell, 23, who now lives in London, said: "I'm completely shocked and really sad. I really liked it there. Everyone got on and it was just a great place to be."

Michaela Williamson left eight years ago. She said: "I'm sad and shocked. It did its best for every pupil. I struggled with dyslexia but was given so much help."
