SURREY will finally have a dedicated kidney unit after being the only county in England not to have a specialist service.
Surrey NHS is currently running a public consultation asking residents for their views about what hospital it should be based at. Ashford and St Peter's Hospital NHS Trust has welcomed the plans and wants to be considered as a potential provider.
Paul Bentley, Director of Strategy for the Trust said: “Ashford and St. Peter’s is interested in being considered as a potential provider of this exciting new service. Surrey is the only county in England not to have a dedicated renal unit and we welcome NHS Surrey’s plans to commission such a service.
"It is likely that the new unit would be created at an existing hospital site because of the links needed with other services such as intensive care. We believe St Peter’s Hospital would be very well placed to both host and deliver such a service and we will be working on developing a bid over the next few months.”
The can access the consultation which runs until Friday, May 29, at: www.surreyhealth.nhs.uk/kidney, or by calling 0800 6525 297.
