Runnymede residents are being urged to register to vote

The strong message from Runnymede Borough Council Electoral Services team is that maintaining democratic choice is important as ever in this year’s combined elections: the European Parliamentary South East Region, Surrey County Council and four Borough Ward By-Elections.

Your application to be added to the register of electors, which enables you to vote at a borough-based polling station or by post, must be with Runnymede Borough Council by Tuesday 19 May 2009.

To vote by post you must register by 5.00pm on the same day 19 May 2009.

Application forms to register can be obtained from political parties, downloaded from Runnymede Council’s web site or call 01932 425650. Applications must be returned to the Runnymede Civic Centre, Station Road, Addlestone, Surrey, KT15 2AH.

The six Surrey County Council Electoral Divisions within Runnymede have received 26 nominations, and are:

Addlestone – five nominations: John Furey (Conservative), Keith Collett (Equal Parenting Alliance), David Bell (Labour and Co-Operative Party), Peter Key (Liberal Democrats), Gillian Ellis (UK Independence Party)

Chertsey – four nominations: Chris Norman (Conservative) Roxanne Mashari (Labour) Christine Key (Liberal Democrats) Christopher Browne (UK Independence Party)

Egham Hythe and Thorpe - four nominations: Yvonna Lay (Conservative); Peter Kingham (Labour); Andy Watson (Liberal Democrats); Steve Gynn (UK Independence Party)

Englefield Green - five nominations: Marisa Heath (Conservative); Jenny Gould (Green Party); Sebastian Michnowicz (Labour); Ian Heath (Liberal Democrats); Toby Micklethwait (UK Independence Party)

Foxhills and Virginia Water – four nominations: Melville Few (Conservative); John Gurney (Labour); Alan Whiteley (Liberal Democrats); Valerie Moore (UK Independence Party)

Woodham and New Haw – four nominations: Mary Angell (Conservative) Gavin Morrison (Labour); Jennifer Coulon (Liberal Democrats) Leon Mullett (UK Independence Party).

Englefield Green West – five nominations: Peter Taylor (Conservative); Jenny Gould (Green Party); Sebastian Michnowicz (Labour); Ian Heath (Liberal Democrats); Toby Micklethwait (UK Independence Party).

Virginia Water – three nominations: Anthony Ridge-Newman (Conservative); Alan Whiteley (Liberal Democrats); Steve Gynn (UK Independence Party).

Candidate nominations for the European Parliamentary Election South East Region, Surrey County Council and Borough Ward By-Elections were received by Thursday 7 May by the appropriate Returning Officer. Nominations have now closed.
