A detective stands guard by the bag
A bag of meat dumped in Stanwell sparked a call to the police after residents feared it may have been human body parts.
Detectives were called to a location just outside Stanwell Burial Grounds, in Town Lane, where they removed a large blue bag containing red and white flesh for examination, and interviewed local people.
After being taken Epsom hospital for analysis, tests confirmed the flesh and offal belonged to an animal.
Michelle Tudor, a Town Lane resident, said: "I caught a look at it when I was walking the dogs. It had blood on it and looked like a heart was in there. It was quite scary."
The bag was found near a bush, and scene of crime officers proceeded to take pictures before placing the meat inside a large clear bag and taking it off to the hospital in a white van at around 5pm.
Michelle said she saw halal style writing on the white bag inside, and detectives at the scene also said they believed the meat came from a butchers.
Although the matter has been closed by Surrey Police, a spokesman said: "It is not clear who put it there, whether it was a person or a group, but police are still investigating how it got there, but it is a slow process."
