Alex Tribick (back) with Colin Stagg
The Staines solicitor who represented Colin Stagg - the man falsely convicted of murdering Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common - is being sounded out to replace Spelthorne MP David Wilshire.
Alex Tribick, who is also Mr Wilshire's solictor, has been approached by Spelthorne Council's Tory leader John Packman about becoming a parliamentary candidate at the next election, and he has confirmed his interest.
Mr Tribick, of WH Matthews, Staines, represented Mr Wilshire in 2000 when the MP threatened legal action against the Heathrow Villager newspaper.
He said: "I have political ambitions and I am interested. Whether now is the right time I'm not sure. I am currently taking advice as to my position."
Mr Tribick, 34, was chairman of Conservative Future, formerly the Young Conservatives, until he stepped down four years ago. He has worked in Staines for ten years and is involved with the Spelthorne Business Forum.
He lives in the Mole Valley and said he would "consider" moving to the borough were he elected. He said he could bring a "vigour and enthusiasm" to the role, as well as "working to emulate the work ethic" displayed by David Wilshire.
Mr Tribick previously made headlines in the Staines News after he helped win compensation for Colin Stagg.
