Testing time for trainer

A STUDENT at Strode's college in Egham picked up his exam results while on an army training camp in Yorkshire.

Phillip Waters, 19, who lives in Fontmell Park, Ashford, was training with the Staines Army Cadets, at a camp near Catterick, when he found out he had passed a BTEC in sports studies, a BTEC in

sports injuries, an A-level in PE, and a British expedition leadership award - a British sports trust award for outdoor instructors.

Phillip, who is a probationary trainer for the 195 Staines Detachment after leaving as a cadet last year, was among 450 teenage army cadets from the South East at the two week camp, which saw cadets and trainers taking part in mountain biking, orienteering, abseiling, clay target shooting, kayaking and first aid testing.

Phlilip said: "It's been really hard working for my exams, but this was a brilliant result."

The Staines Cadets will now return to their normal Monday and Wednesday parade nights at the Cadet Centre Langley Road, Staines .
