Band steals a march at school

PUPILS from St John's Beaumont School were far from brassed off when the Queen's favourite musicians visited for a concert.

The Band of the Blues and Royals from Buckingham Palace, Her Majesty's State Trumpeters and Her Majesty the Queen's personal bagpiper all descended on the Englefield Green school on Thursday to perform a standing march and grand concert.

The event was a a collaboration between the school's music department and the bandmaster of the Blues and Royals.

The entire school of 325 pupils, aged between three and 13, turned out to watch the soldiers, in full regimental attire, marching and playing a lunchtime fanfare.

In the afternoon, members of the band gave the pupils some coaching before allowing them to perform alongside them in a concert attended by parents and guests.

Director of music at the school, Ian Keatley, said: "Today's event has been about enriching the musical experience of our boys.

"They have had the once in a lifetime opportunity to perform alongside the band in a grand concert. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it."
