Pupils scoop a trophy with their plain speaking

Pupils from Thomas Knyvett College have talked their way into the county round of the Youth Speaks debating contest organised by the Rotary organisation.

The year 7 pupils gave a presentation on dyslexia on Thursday, beating off competition from three other teams at the contest, hosted by the Rotary Club of Shepperton Aurora at Spelthorne Council's HQ.

The victorious team comprised Alistair Clapham, James Sutherland and Hayley Sewell who followed in the footsteps of a year 11 team from the school in Church Road, Ashford, which clinched the same victory last year.

They will take part in the next round of the nationwide competition - at county level - in February. [25a0] CHAMPS: The Thomas Knyvett winning team of Hayley Sewell, James Sutherland and Alistair Clapham
