Vagina Monologues
It is 10 years since The Vagina Monologues debuted on the stage, and the funny and sexy play returns to the New Victoria Theatre, Woking, from January 19-24.
Popular actresses, Jenny Eclair, Jennifer Ellison and Wendi Peters take the leads this time, joining a long list of the world's most successful women who have performed it around the world, including Honor Blackman, Sophie Dahl, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Hall, Dannii Minogue and Kate Winslet.
The Vagina Monologues comprises a collection of original stories gathered by Eve Ensler, the show's New York creator.
Eve asked over 200 women of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and walks of life to share their most intimate secrets in "vagina interviews" on such normally taboo topics as birth, sex, orgasms and relationships, with revelatory results.
It is these monologues that are performed by the three actresses, who appear on stage together throughout.
Jenny Eclair is an accomplished writer, broadcaster and comedienne and the first woman to win the prestigious Perrier Award. She co-wrote and performed in the hugely successful stage and television show, Grumpy Old Women.
Jennifer Ellison has a wide-ranging career encompassing film, television, theatre and modelling. Her theatre work includes the West End shows Boeing Boeing and Chicago, on television, she has appeared in Hotel Babylon and The Commander, while her film credits include The Phantom of the Opera.
Wendi Peters has had an extensive career in both theatre and television but is probably best known for her role as Cilla Battersby Brown in Coronation Street and 'Podger' Pam Jolly in Bad Girls. Her theatre credits include national tours of Hello, Dolly and Guys and Dolls.
A proportion of every ticket sold for the show is donated to the V-day fund, an organisation that provides charitable aid to women and girls who have been victims of abuse and violence.
The show starts at 8pm each evening, with tickets from £13. Go to - www.theambassadors.com/woking
