Chaaban comes off the bench to seal Swans win

ALI Chaaban has always been a bit of a showman – but he surpassed himself as Staines beat struggling Weymouth on Saturday.

The Swans’ leading scorer, out for the last three weeks with a knee injury, stepped off the bench and within seconds, with his first touch of the ball, cracked home his 14th goal of the season to send Staines sixth.

Staines were leading 2-1 but increasingly labouring against the relegation haunted Terras, when they were awarded a free-kick some 22 yards out.

It was the cue for Blue Square South manager of the month Steve Cordery to unleash Chaaban in place of the tireless Marc Charles-Smith.

It was clear no-one else was going to get a sniff of the free-kick as Wheatsheaf Park’s goal poacher lashed his shot through the wall and inside the near post – that’s what you call a substitution!

"Steve (Cordery) asked me if I fancied it as soon as the free-kick was given," said Chaaban later.

"I said yes, he threw me on and luckily it went in."
