Tangerines feel the relegation squeeze

RYMAN PREMIER Billericay Town...........................2 Ashford Town....................0

THE Tangerines slipped closer to the Ryman Premier drop zone after defeat at Billericay on Saturday.

Boss Mark Butler posted his intentions with a three-pronged attack, but Ashford's troubles in front of goal continued.

Both sides traded blows in the opening 45 minutes. Ricky Wellard saw a curling free-kick turned around the post, while Lee Hodges headed over Paul Burgess's bar at the other end.

But Billericay made the breakthrough seven minutes after the interval when Hodges crossed for Joe Flack to beat Burgess.

Ashford missed a gilt-edged chance to level when Scott Harris rolled the ball across the face of the goal, but none of his team-mates were on hand to take advantage.

Anthony Joseph and Wellard both came close to levelling, but Ashford's fate was sealed in the closing minutes.

Ide Okojie's tame shot hit a bobble and squirmed through the arms of Burgess to wrap up the points for the hosts.
