ASHFORD TOWN have turned down a 'derisory' offer for Ricky Wellard, according to boss Mark Butler.
The sought-after midfielder, known as 'Bones', is wanted by newly-promoted AFC Wimbledon, despite signing a new contract with the Tangerines on the same evening as Ashford won the Surrey Senior
Cup two weeks ago.
However, Butts is under no illusions his star in the centre of the pitch is on his way once money has been haggled and a sensible offer accepted.
The manager said: "We received an offer for Bones from AFC that was nowhere near our evaluation. In fact, it was derisory. But I'm sure
we'll sit down again and when an arrangement is agreed our player has a great chance of furthering his career in Blue Square Premier football."
Meanwhile, Butts is hoping the reverse journey is made by defenders Michael Peacock and Luke
Pigden, who were on loan at Short Lane last season but have since been released by AFC.
He said: "Luke's gone away on holiday - and is pleased we've shown interest in him. Michael, too, knows we want him.
"So with any luck we should know in the next week or so whether they want to join us."
