London leads way

ADAM LONDON has already won the Twenty20 Cup with Middlesex - now he's set his sights on the Evening Standard Challenge Trophy with Sunbury.

The 19-year-old star helped the Seaxes to the coveted cup at the Rose Bowl recently, and will line-up for Sunbury this weekend against Wimbledon for a spot in the final at the Brit Oval.

And London - who has a summer contract with Middlesex - admits success with Sunbury would be better than that with his county.

He said: "It was great to play on TV and in front of such a big crowd at the Rose Bowl, and it was a great achievement to win.

"But I've been at Sunbury since I was five. It would mean a little bit more to do it with Sunbury because I would've felt I had played more of a part.

"It would cap a good couple of weeks for me personally."

Sunbury - who are fighting for their lives in the Surrey Championship Premier Division - booked their semi-final showdown with Wimbledon with an emphatic nine-wicket win over Potters Bar on Sunday.

London took 3-6 as they skittled out their opponents for just 95, with skipper Toby Roland-Jones (2-20) and Matthew Todd (3-12) also taking wickets.

They got off to a slow start in reply when Max Hall was dismissed almost immediately, but Stuart Poynter (66) and London (25) led them home.

Meanwhile, Sunbury slipped to another defeat to Malden Wanderers in the Surrey Championship on Saturday.

The visitors were all out for 181, John Maunders top-scoring with 70, while Roland-Jones (25), Adam Stanier (20no) and Steve Lewis (15) beefed up the tail.

In reply, Malden raced to 103-3 before a middle-order collapse left the game in the balance.

However, the hosts reached the target with two wickets to spare to leave Sunbury six points adrift of safety.

London missed the defeat, but added: "We're struggling to win a game at the moment. We've got to try and best to stay up."
