SURREY COUNTY LEAGUE, DIVISION TWO Worpleson and Burpham.......122 Shepperton ........125-5 Shepperton won by five wickets
Shepperton's dreams of promotion ended on a bittersweet penultimate day of the campaign on Saturday.
John Rawlinson, Richard Barker and Zeeshan Umer were the architects of a comfortable win over Worplesdon, but victories elsewhere for the top two, West End and Frimley, mean another season in Division Two for David Dieterle's side.
Dave Snowdon got the hosts off to a great start trapping Pryian Raja for nought.
However, it was Umer (4-45) and Rawlinson (3-10) who tore the heart out of the visitors' batting effort as only skipper Peter Grant (26) and Mike Black (24) put up prolonged resistance. Barker got in on the act late on with 2-2, leaving his side chasing a 122.
A third-wicket stand of 67 between Barker and Rawlinson put victory in sight for Shepperton. Rawlinson fell for 38 and Barker (33) soon followed but skipper Dieterle's 21no saw Shepperton home.
SURREY COUNTY LEAGUE, DIVISION ONE Stoke D'Abernon.........280-5 dec Kempton ............. 244-4 Losing draw for Kempton
ANDY WARD'S sparkling half-century saved a draw for Kempton at promotion chasing Stoke D'Abernon on Saturday.
Ward struck a six and 10 fours as he made 80 at more than a run a ball, but the task of scoring at 5.6 runs per over for victory proved too much.
The Kempton number three received good support in the run chase from Joel Miah who hit eight fours in his 57 and Martin Watts who made a more sedate 43.
However, once Ward fell at 224 Kempton settled for a solitary point.
Earlier their bowlers had been made to toil as host batsmen Hiken Shah (95) and Tim Handel (91) helped their side rack up 280.
Joel Miah was the pick of the Kempton attack with 2-58.
