SURREY CHAMPIONSHIP, DIVISION FOUR Ashford................................247-7 Chertsey......................119 all out Ashford won by 128 runs
Richard Mansfield marked his first season as Ashford skipper by adding the Division Four title to their Twenty20 trophy on Saturday.
The victory over relegation-haunted Chertsey guarantees them top spot whatever happens against Maori Oxshott on the final day of the season.
And teammate Ross Wright is full of praise for his captain.
He said: "Richard's been superb since he came in. He's scored over 600 league runs in his career, and he's really helped us have a successful season."
Trefor Evans top-scored with 62 for the Short Lane outfit, while Wendall Sebastien (42) and Ross Wright (30) added to the cause as Ashford posted 247.
Chertsey - who needed a win to secure their Division Four status - were always up against it on a deteriorating wicket.
Ashford's seamers Riaz Khan and Ali Syed did the damage with the ball as they ran out emphatic winners and nailed another nail in Chertsey's coffin.
