Staines saved

SURREY CHAMPIONSHIP, DIVISION FIVE Sinjuns Grammarians...204 all out Staines & Laleham................205-3 Staines won by seven wickets

Staines skipper Kirk Mullard admitted he was a relieved man after his side saved their Surrey Championship status with victory over already-promoted Sinjuns Grammarians on Saturday.

The hosts needed a win to guarantee their spot in Division Five next season, and Sam Webber put in a man-of-the-match performance to lead his side home.

First, Webber took 5-26 to clean up Sinjuns' tail as the visitors posted 204. Then, he hit an unbeaten 69 to clinch 10 vital points for Mullard's men and preserve their Surrey Championship place.

"It was a massive relief," said Mullard. After skittling out the visitors - who needed a win to clinch the title - for 204, openers Mullard and Tim Bloomfield (50) gave Staines a solid start.

Then, Stuart Hall (35) and Webber led them home with seven wickets to spare.
