Twenty20 cup agony for Ashford

ASHFORD agonisingly missed out on a Twenty20 finals day spot and a dream outing at Glamorgan's SWALEC Stadium on Sky TV at the Four Counties finals on Sunday.

The Short Lane outfit - representing Surrey - were battling it out with sides from Middlesex, Essex and Kent for the lucrative prize.

Richard Mansfield's men disposed of Colchester & East Essex in the last four, but the final proved a match too far as Stanmore wrapped up victory with just two balls to spare. Mansfield led by example with 86 as Ashford flew out of the blocks.

But the rest of the batting line-up failed to hit the same heights, as they ended on 165.

However, Ashford's bowlers failed to perform when it mattered, only Asif Prasala (2-19) making any real impact as Stanmore snatched a dramatic late victory.

Nonetheless, Ashford came home £3,500 richer, and will look forward to playing in the Surrey Championship Division Three cricket next season after promotion this term.
