Burns is too hot to handle

COMBINED COUNTIES PREMIER Egham Town..............................1 Epsom & Ewell...........................2

EGHAM'S hard work at Ash United 48 hours earlier was undone as they slipped to a disappointing home defeat to Epsom & Ewell on Monday.

The Sarnies sealed their first win of the season at the Shawfield Stadium on Saturday thanks to Mark Scotchford's strike, but they couldn't repeat the feat at the Runnymede.

The hosts flew out the blocks and took a deserved lead when Scotchford's thumping free kick proved too powerful for the Epsom keeper.

Skipper Scotchford twice went close to extending their lead and Leeroy Phelan headed against the post with the keeper beaten all ends up as Egham dominated the first half.

But the Sarnies were hit by a sucker punch 10 minutes before the break when Robbie Burns met James Moran's cross to level matters.

And Burns backheeled a 75th-minute winner from a re-taken corner to leave Egham empty-handed.

Meanwhile, forward Dollond M'Vimvi has arrived on loan from Croydon, while Billy Sentence has returned to the club after a spell last season.
