First defeat for CS

SURREY FA SATURDAY CUP Surrey Athletic.......................6 CS United...................2

A goal-of-the-season contender from Anthony Johnson couldn't prevent CS United's first defeat of the season on Saturday.

Johnson dinked the ball home after a brilliant one-two with Luke Wharton to draw United level at 2-2 late in the first half, but that was as good as it got for the Southern Area Christian Football League leaders against their Woking and Guildford Alliance opponents.

Debutant striker Will Shackleton had given CS the lead early on, only for them to concede three goals in the last 10 minutes.

COMBINED COUNTIES DIVISION ONE Staines Lammas.................................6 Chobham.......................2

NATHAN WHARF claimed normal service had been resumed after Staines Lammas hit league whipping boys Chobham for six on Saturday.

Jay Coombs's early double begun the goal glut, but the lowly visitors got back to 2-2 before a four-goal second-half blitz got Lammas back to winning ways.

Paul Timba was another back among the goals for the hosts, and boss Wharf says his side has a more familiar look about it..

He said: "We haven't been taking the pressure off our defence lately by sticking the ball in the net. But it could have been double figures by the end on Saturday - we were back to our old selves.

"With Dan Cox in goal giving confidence to the defence, Steve Wilmore breaking up the game in the centre and Coombs and Timba firing again up front we've got the spine of our side back."

Coombs struck twice in the first 25 minutes, but it was all-square 10 minutes after half-time.

However, Timba restored the lead and the floodgates opened. Adam Ridley, Ross Deacon and Chris Baker all got on the scoresheet.

SURREY INTERMEDIATE PREMIER Ripley......................................3 Virginia Water...........1

SADLY it was a case of after the Lord Mayor's show for Virginia Water in Saturday's trip to runaway leaders Ripley.

Buoyed by last week's record 14-0 win over Shalford, Water travelled confident of an upset, but ended up with just a Dave Patterson consolation for their efforts.

They were three goals behind by the time Patterson's volley pulled one back with nine minutes left - by then it was too late.

COMBINED COUNTIES PREMIER Egham Town..................1 Sandhurst Town............2

CRAIG PRENDERGAST'S second goal in successive games couldn't save Egham from a home defeat to struggling Sandhurst on Saturday.

The super-sub hero of last week's victory at Cobham was given a start and obliged with a 41st minute equaliser, only for the Sarnies to concede defeat to a goal eight minutes from time.

Sandhurst's Matt Hopton opened the scoring on 39 minutes with a shot which looped over host keeper Clark Gooding.

Egham were level just two minutes later, as Prendergast, who'd had an earlier effort ruled out for offside, received Remi Sellars's pass and sidestepped his marker before curling his shot beyond the Sandhurst keeper.

Egham conceded a spot-kick when Gooding brought down Hopton in the box, but clawed the spot-kick to safety.

However, not even he could stop Greg Stokes crashing the winner from outside the box.

FEATHERS CUP West London Phoenix...............................3 FC Hatton.......................................2

A DETERMINED second-half fightback couldn't save FC Hatton from an early cup exit at West London Phoenix on Sunday.

The visitors were always facing an uphill struggle after giving Phoenix a two-goal start inside seven minutes, and worse followed as their hosts made it 3-0 before the break.

A cracking strike from Nick Barnes reduced the arrears after the interval and Anthony Mortley added a late penalty, but it wasn't enough.
