Nathan Wharf: Award counts for nothing

Staines Lammas may have won the Combined Counties League Division One December team of the month award, but it will count for nothing if they lose to league-leaders Mole Valley on Saturday.

So admits boss Nathan Wharf, whose side have shot right back into the promotion mix following four straight wins.

They dropped to third after Hanworth Villa won on Saturday while Staines' trip to Frimley Green fell victim to the weather.

However, Lammas can close the gap to six points with victory over their Surrey rivals, but Wharf knows a defeat will all but put the title out of reach.

He said: "It's nice to get recognition. We're progressing nicely, but it doesn't mean anything until you've got the silverware in the cabinet.

"If we lose on Saturday that basically puts us out of the running.

We've got to keep chipping away. The award means nothing if we get beat."

Chris Bullen will miss the clash as he's away, but Jay Coombs is back in contention after returning from holiday.

Meanwhile, last Monday's postponed Middlesex Premier Cup clash at Uxbridge has been re-scheduled for this Monday.
