George inspires Cobham to double festival victory

GEORGE Lowe has been hailed as an inspiration for Cobham RFC Youth as they landed two trophies at the fourth annual Nandos 10s Festival last week.

Lowe first played in the Nandos 10s as a Cobham U16s player, before being recruited by the Harlequins Academy, and has now been named in the England U20s squad for the Junior World Championships in Japan.

Cobham coach David Manly said: "George is an inspiration to all these young players and after watched the afternoon's matches, he was on hand to present the cups to the winning teams alongside Chris York, also from the England U20s."

The festival was played at Cobham's Old Surbitonians ground on Sunday, April 19, in fine weather, in contrast to the mudbath of last year.

Four teams in each of the age groups, from U13 to U16s, played a round-robin format of 20-minute, 10-a-side matches producing some exhilarating rugby.

In the U13 age group, Cobham and Wasps ran in 20 tries each in their three group games before going head-to-head in the final, where Wasps lost their sting.

Cobham were worthy winners in a one-sided final which reversed the result at the group stage.

And the same two teams met in the U16s final, which was more competitive than the U13S one, but again home advantage saw Cobham victorious in front of more than 300 people.
